Oregon Fire Season

Hello Float Plane Pilots,

As Oregon Forestry (ODF) is gearing up for the 2022 fire season they are deploying signs for all bodies of water where they can scoop water to fight fires.

Attached is a map that has been developed identifying scoopable water sources for Fire Boss’s in the state. ODF has asked Oregon Marine Board and Oregon Department of Aviaiton to reach out to the public to be aware.  For the flying public “if you see smoke in the vicinity of a lake be aware of water scooping aircraft operations”.   TFR would be up for the firefighting activity, however, the lake could be outside the TFR, we just want pilots to be vigilant.

Department of Forestry; State Aviation Manager Neal Laugle offered to give a presentation to the Float Plane Association.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
